Holy Trinity Church is one of six local groups to receive a share of £2,700 of funding from Stroud’s Town Council’s community grants scheme.
At its latest meeting The Town Council’s Grants Committee agreed to provide £500 towards the cost of new chairs to replace existing choir pews to enable the church to be used more widely for the benefit of the local community.
The council also approved a £500 grant to Summer Street Area Community Association towards running costs. Stroud Sea Cadets will also receive £200 towards security improvements. Grants of £500 were awarded to Stroud Valleys Car Club towards advertising, website updating and car interiors; Gloucestershire Printmaking Cooperative towards the Mini Impress Festival and Stroud Valleys Woodcraft Folk towards hall rental.
Councillor Amanda Moriarty who chairs the committee said the latest awards indicated the Town Council’s efforts to support the many voluntary and community-based projects which form a vital part of town life.
“It never ceases to amaze me how many residents give up their time to get involved in helping other people on a community level,‘ she said. ‘I am always keen to talk to local groups interested in applying for a grant."
