cliff_dressel.jpgWe are sad to announce the passing of another town councillor. Cliff Dressel (right) had served as an independent member for the Uplands Ward for almost two terms.

His family announced his death, after a period of illness, on Saturday 11th December. His death came just a week after more than 300 people attended the funeral service for Linda Townley, also an independent town councillor in Uplands.

The funeral service for Cliff Dressel, who lived in Folly Lane, was due to take place at Gloucester Crematorium at 12 noon on Thursday 23rd December.  His family has requested donations in lieu of flowers to the Cotswold Care Hospice.

Tributes have been paid to independent town councillor Linda Townley who died on the night of Tuesday 23rd November after a period of illness.

"She had her own strong beliefs but would always respectfully listen to what others had to say before reaching a decision," said Mayor Andy Read. "Linda won particular respect for her work helping her constituents with individual problems. She will be a hard act to follow."

l_townley-sml.jpgMrs Townley (right) lived in Thompson Road in Uplands with her husband Chas, who is also a town councillor, and their children. She worked as a senior HomeStart co-ordinator, was a governor of Uplands Community Primary School, a trustee of Stroud Volunteer and Community Action  and served as an independent councillor at Stroud District Council.

An estimated 300 people packed into Uplands Church for Linda's funeral service on Friday 3rd December. Her family had asked that people celebrate her life by wearing something colourful and that donations in lieu of flowers be sent to Home-Start Stroud and Dursley.
