Planners urged to take firm line over Wades Farm

andy_web.jpgPlanners should take a firm line with developers seeking to build 50 homes on a greenfield site on the edge of town. That was the plea from Stroud Mayor Andy Read at a town council meeting on Monday 11th January.

Barratt Homes is currently consulting with people over its plans for Wades Farm off Folly Lane, with a formal application expected in February.

At meeting on January 11th, Stroud District Council planning officer Darryl Rogers outlined to town councillors the current situation relating to the need to meet the district’s five-year housing supply. Barratt Homes recently won a controversial appeal decision to build a major new housing estate at Foxes Field in Cainscross after successfully arguing that the district had a housing shortfall.

Cllr Read (pictured above) claimed that that appeal decision was ‘perverse’ and urged district planners to stand firm. “There are plenty of housing sites available. Even if there was a shortfall, Wades Farm is way down the list of preferred options.”

Meanwhile arrangements have been confirmed for a public consultation regarding the development proposals. Barratt Homes will be holding an exhibition that will be open to the public from 1.30pm – 7.30pm on Thursday 20 January 2011, at The Subscription Rooms.  Copies of the exhibition materials will also be available to view in Stroud Library. The Town Council is having a private pre-application meeting with Barratt representatives on Monday 17th January.
