UPDATED: Abercairn housing: Strong objections now submitted

Stroud Town Council has submitted detailed planning objections to support more than 100 residents fighting a developer who wishes to build 14 homes on a valued green space off Belle Vue Road.

Stroud District Council is set to decide on the application, for the former garden of Abercairn, at a meeting in March.

It was originally set to refuse the scheme in December. However concerns amongst campaigners have risen, after that decision was deferred for further negotiations with the applicant.

In addition to submitting its formal objection reasons (copy below), the Town Council has also issued a formal complaint to the District Council about the way this application has been handled. In particular, the Town Council is unhappy that it was unable to submit its full objection reasons earlier because it was not notified of revised plans submitted in the summer.

More than 100 local people have written in to oppose the scheme and residents have formed the Abercairn Action Group to co-ordinate action.
