A group of residents has drawn-up detailed plans for the area around the new canal bridge at the end of Merrywalks, in a bid to provide a people-friendly gateway into the town centre.
The Stroud Against the Gyratory (SAG) group was formed by local residents concerned that the area needs to remain accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. The plans (see below) were presented to the Town Council on Monday March 28th.
Following discussions about the proposals it was agreed to ask Gloucestershire County Council to ensure that a scheme based on these plans is included as one of the options in the public consultation later this year over the final design of the area.
The Town Council also agreed to hold discussions with the county council over taking responsibility for the small area of green space between the canal and the Stroud and Swindon headquarters. The intention would be to create a Pocket Park as part of the gateway between the canal and town centre.
