Stroud could become Britain’s first Apple Town after councillors backed an idea put forward by local residents.
At a meeting of the Town Council on March 28th Ben Spencer from Cainscross Road unveiled the ideas behind the project which includes a plan to plant 500 new apple trees in the town. They could be in home gardens, allotments, small spaces around the town or even in planters in the centre. A linear orchard along the canal and cycle path is another option.
The Town Council gave its backing to the idea. Ben said that he hasn't been able to find another Apple Town in the UK, so this could be another first for Stroud.
