Venues and times for a year-long programme of free play schemes in Stroud have been announced.
Campfire cooking, den building, art work and games were among the attractions taken up by almost 100 children during the recent half-term as part of a pilot project. The four trial sessions held at Archway Gardens in Paganhill and on the Mason Road playing fields were judged such a success that a year-long programme is now to be rolled out on both sites.
The sessions will take place at Mason Road on Tuesdays and at Archway Gardens on Thursdays.
Each will be held between 4-6pm on school days and from 10am to 4pm in the school holidays. Exact start dates will be announced soon, but the sessions will commence in late June or early July and will run for 12 months.
The scheme will be run by local charity, Play Gloucestershire’s Play Rangers which has hosted 22,000 play sessions in Gloucestershire’s urban parks and rural green spaces in the past three years.
Stroud Town Council will fund all of the sessions as part of its attempts to provide more play facilities and activities for young people in the town’s residential areas.
