The judges were impressed with the community's combined efforts to make the town look its best.

Stroud Town Council's Green Spaces team worked flat out to get the town's green spaces in tip top shape.

The council also supported the Stroud in Bloom committee which oversees the campaign.

A Silver Gilt award is given to those who achieve a high standard throughout and have shown exceptional work in one or two areas.

Judges praised the increased number of floral displays, despite funding cuts, and the reduction in litter, flyposting and dog fouling.

Jim Mathison, Green Spaces manager, said: "It is a fantastic result and a tribute to the community effort. The town looked great which makes all the difference to those of us who call it home. The team are pleased to be part of the winning efforts. We worked hard in all our green spaces but particularly hard on our floral display in Park Gardens."

Judges visited the town on July 12 and were given a tour of Stratford Park, Park Gardens in Slad Road and Stroud Valley Primary School.
