Town Shortlisted in National Award Print E-mail

great_town_pic_web.jpgStroud will know in November if it really is the greatest town in the country.

At the end of July a team of judges spent two days assessing our town after it was shortlisted for the Great Town Award. We are one of three towns up for the award, alongside Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire and Westport in Ireland.

Women’s refuge wins grant support Print E-mail

47_eco_homes.jpgStroud’s women’s refuge is one of four local groups to receive a share of £1,500 of funding from Stroud’s Town Council’s community grants scheme.

The Stroud Beresford Group has been operating in the town for 34 years and has Archbishop Desmond Tutu as its patron.

Stroud Food & Drink and Walking Festivals 2010 Print E-mail

festival_launch_directors_web.jpgStroud’s first Independent street fair, a medieval market, wine tastings, pudding evenings, a seafood cookery school, a guerrilla banquet, sponsored dog walk, beer and cider festival, and an exquisite blend of Indian art, music and food.

These are just some of the highlights unveiled today by organisers of Stroud’s fourth Food and Drink and Walking Festivals. With 47 walks and a massive programme of food and drink events spread across two weeks in September, the Festival aims to promote Stroud’s diverse array of food and drink and its fabulous countryside.

350 bee houses given away Print E-mail

bees_grp_web.jpgSTOP PRESS: All 350 bee houses have now been handed out.

Householders in Stroud were as busy as a bee in grabbing 350 free beehouses for their gardens.

Thanks to funding from the Town Council the Global Bee Project was giving away 350 hand-made residences for the insects.

Stroud Annual Civic Awards Print E-mail

The event is now in its sixth year and forms part of the council's Annual Town Meeting which is held every year in May.
