The Church Council is arranging a series of events during the year focussing on the actual anniversary of the consecration in May and All Saints Tide at the beginning of November. The first event was held on the first Sunday in 2010, January 3rd. At the 11am "Saints Alive" - the first Sunday informal service with a special focus on children and young families - the church witnessed the lighting of 100 flames. Stroud Mayor Andy Read (above), whose home is within sight of the church, lit the first of the 100 candles to celebrate the birthday of one of Stroud's most important community buildings.
Hawkwood College is hosting an event connected to the centenary in conjunction with The Betjeman Society. John Betjeman (1906-84 & Poet Laureate from 1972) loved architecture and knew the Uplands church. Local community figure Pamela Tawse has pulled an event together, supported by local film maker Jonathan Stedall. The event runs from October 19th-22nd with a concert in the church on Thursday 21st. The flyer below has full information.
