Memorial Garden Area

A memorial garden area may be planted in a space not exceeding 1 metre x 600mm on a Lawn Grave, or 600mm x 440mm on a Cremated Remains Grave. This area includes the full depth of any plinth/memorial and therefore may need to be repositioned if a memorial is installed at a later date.

Only annual bedding or small shrubs may be planted. No trees may be planted, and no fences or other boundaries of any height or form may be erected.

Plants should not be allowed to grow taller than 600mm or to spread outside the width of the memorial garden area.

Cut flowers may be placed loosely or in an appropriate metal or plastic vase. Please note that wild deer frequent the Cemeteries and flowers can sometimes be eaten by them.

The following items are not permitted: glass, china or porcelain items, including vases, candle-holders, bottles or ornaments; plastic items other than vases, including plastic windmills, solar lights and bottles; naked flames including lit candles; food and drink.

The Council may remove items if they are deemed to have perished, weathered or become an eyesore or any articles that are likely to cause risk, damage or offence to other visitors or which interfere with the Council's maintenance of the site.

If the garden area is not used, it will be turfed and managed as a lawn by the Council.
