Serving the people of Stroud Town to create a thriving, sustainable community

Strategy

Shape our priorities for the next five years

Stroud Town Council is thinking about its goals for the next five years and we want to hear what matters most to our residents. The priorities we set now will guide how the Council decides which projects to support and how we focus our resources.

While we don't have the same resources or power as Stroud District Council or Gloucestershire County Council, we can make a difference by speaking up for those things that we feel are most important for our town. In recent years the Town Council has had a big impact in Stroud, for example saving the Sub Rooms and Lansdown Hall as public venues; improving play facilities in five sites across town; awarding grants to local organisations; and providing additional support from our staff for the vital work of Stroud's community groups.

Over the next five years, we believe we can make the greatest difference to our town by focusing on:

  1. Improving the quality and quantity of our public spaces and parks for people, nature and community activities across Stroud; and ensuring our town centre is an attractive and accessible destination for businesses and cultural activity.
  2. Supporting Stroud's vibrant community and volunteer groups to become sustainable and resilient and taking opportunities to ensure that community assets (such as buildings that belong to Stroud) are shaped by local voices and benefit our whole town.
  3. Addressing social exclusion, isolation and inequality across our town, ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to access key services and participate in our town's life, regardless of who they are or where in Stroud they live.

Throughout everything we do we will work to address the climate and biodiversity emergencies and work toward our ambition to become a net-zero Council by 2030.

We would love to hear whether you think that these are the right areas for Stroud Town Council to focus on over the next five years and how you experience them in your life and on your street.
